By the end you'll
- Turn a single card into clear advice
- Use the three-part formula on any question
- Avoid the mistakes beginners make most often
Level 1 questions use one card to answer one question. A single card looks easy, but it is the most important practice there is, because it teaches you to pick which meaning of the card fits the question.
The three-part formula
- This card is about... (pick the 1–2 keywords that fit the question best)
- Applied to the question, that means...
- So my advice is... (something the querent can actually do)
A supportive card
Question: How should I prepare for my upcoming exam?
Cards: Eight of Pentacles, position Message of the day
Sample answer: The Eight of Pentacles is about diligence and steady practice. For an exam, the card says success comes from reviewing a little every day, not cramming the night before. Set aside an hour a day for practice questions until the exam.
A card that looks unsupportive
Question: Should I talk to my boss about a promotion today?
Cards: The Hermit, position Message of the day
Sample answer: The Hermit is about stepping back to reflect. Today is not the moment to bring it up. Use the time to gather your results and sharpen your reasons, then book the conversation when you are ready. You will carry far more weight that way.
An unsupportive card doesn't always mean "no". Turn it into something the querent can do.
Weaker answer: The Hermit means a hermit, soul-searching, solitude, inner wisdom.
Stronger answer: Today is not the moment to bring it up. Take time to gather your results first, then book the conversation.
Reciting every keyword earns nothing. Answering the querent's question is what counts.
Common mistakes
- Using every keyword, so the answer has no focus
- Describing the card without answering the question
- Being too certain, e.g. "You will definitely pass"
- Writing so much that the querent can't find the answer
Summary
- 1–2 keywords are enough
- Card → question → advice
- Unsupportive card = say what to prepare
