A four-week plan to teach yourself tarot in 15 to 20 minutes a day, from single cards and the Major Arcana to suits, numbers and the 3-card spread.
5 min read
You do not need a long course to teach yourself tarot. With a clear plan and 15 to 20 minutes a day, you can read a single card fluently within 30 days and start telling a 3-card reading as one story. The plan below runs four weeks, each with its own goal.
Week 1 (days 1-7): meet the cards and read one card
- Day 1: read "What is tarot" and "The 78 cards: Major and Minor Arcana".
- Day 2: read "Your first tarot reading on your own", then draw your first card for yourself.
- Days 3-7: draw a daily card each morning. Note the card name, what you see in the picture and one word that comes to mind.
Week 2 (days 8-14): the 22 Major Arcana
- Three cards a day, from The Fool to The World in the card library.
- Read the Major Arcana as The Fool's journey through one life lesson after another. The order becomes easier to remember.
- Each day, write one Level 1 reading, have the AI teacher score it, and read which criteria lost points.
Week 3 (days 15-21): the four suits of the Minor Arcana
- Days 15-16 Wands (fire), days 17-18 Cups (water), days 19-20 Swords (air), day 21 Pentacles (earth).
- Learn what the numbers mean instead of memorizing card by card. An Ace is a beginning, a 5 is conflict, a 10 is the end point of the story.
- Play one round a day of multiple choice or Mystery Card. They are free, and they keep review from getting dull.
Week 4 (days 22-30): the 3-card spread and reading for others
- Days 22-25: practice the 3-card spread of past, present and future, and tell it as one story.
- Days 26-27: try reversed cards. Read them as energy that is blocked, not just the opposite meaning.
- Days 28-29: read for one close friend, then ask how it felt to hear it.
- Day 30: reread your day 1 notes and compare them with where you are now.
How to tell you are really getting better
- You see a card and recall its meaning without looking it up.
- Your readings answer the question directly and end with advice you can act on.
- Your AI teacher scores become steadier instead of swinging high and low.
- You read a 3-card spread as one story, not three separate paragraphs.
Tip: On a day you have no time, draw just the daily card. Consistency matters more than occasional long sessions.
Summary
- Week 1 single cards, week 2 Major Arcana, week 3 Minor Arcana, week 4 the 3-card spread.
- Write a real reading every day and have someone check it.
- Keep notes so you can compare your progress.
Frequently asked questions
- Is 30 days enough to learn tarot?
- It is enough to read single cards and 3-card spreads on your own. Longer spreads and reading professionally for others take much longer to build.
- Is practicing with the AI teacher free?
- Free members get 2 paws a day, stacking up to 10 paws. One practice reading costs 1 paw, and new members also get some extra free practice readings in the first stretch after signing up. The multiple-choice and Mystery Card modes are free.
- If I miss several days, should I start over?
- No. Pick up from the day you left off.
- Can I use a physical deck with this plan?
- Yes. The steps are the same. Just keep the card library open to compare meanings.
